Downsides to small box
Any damage possible? I mean to the subs....say JL reccommends 1.25 ft3 of space and I'm running them in a box of half that...will it hurt the sub? or will it just not be as loud?
I built a box for my two w0's and I'm powering them with the JL500/1.......anddd they sound nothing like they did in the powerwedge and in my integra....Now I know the box has something to do with it, or is alot of the sound being absorbed and not transfered as well through into the cabin...?
I'm kinda not satisfied....I spent all day building the box and I mean it deff. adds "umph" but the interior speakers are overpowering....sounds good...crisp, clean and LOUD, just subs don't BANG like they used to!
I'll post pics when I finish up the mess in my trunk lol. . .

a smaller enclosure would increase back pressure on the sub.
it would probably be able to handle a bit more power, but it's also gonna increase the damping response of the sub. which is quite likely to reduce the sound quality of the sub, and significantly reduce audio output. it will also cause the lower frequencies to roll off faster.
ie, it's gonna not be as loud, and it will probably not output as loud in low bass notes, and will probably not sustain as long as it might normally.
this might help
