Hmm on that note, anyone want to gues how much clearance i'll need for the grill? I'm thinking of making a mesh one, but i'm not sure how much clearance to leave on the front...

Since we're scheming about the box, does anyone have opinions on polyfill? should I chuck some in there? With such a small box, i won't be able to stick very much in there

You can PM me when you place the order - speeds things up a bit (of course the speed will be 0 on e8a fitments until SC's comes through the shop).

You typically add some poly-fill when your enclosure is under-sized as it acts as a dampener.

I will test SC's sub with and without - but feel confident that the no-fill option will be the best solution.

The box will actually be the near-perfect volume once you install the driver. Box volume is 0.38 ft^3 and I estimate the volume of the driver to be approx. 0.04 ft^3 once it is installed.

Dang...these ED subs seem like they'd work pretty well in small boxes...Almost wish I hadn't given up after I realized I couldn't fit a Shiva box in my trunk well

Would have been tough to find a 4-channel amp that could be bridged to accomodate those power requirements (900 W for the 10a which only needs 0.5 cu ft in a sealed box )

I was mounting a JL 8W3 for another this weekend and decided to take a couple of pics of the Kicker and Audiobahn Grill options. Unfortunately my distributor did not have the black-oxide Audiobahn grills in stock so you will get a view of bling-bling chrome one.

I am 85% confident that either will work with the flat-cone driver on the e8a - but we will see once one gets mounted. I think the Kicker looks the best and it is the more sturdy than the Audiobahn.

Cheers

William

hrm. kicker does look good... audiobahn looks to perhaps give more protection? both look to have a curve in section in the middle though... (*shrug*) still, they both look to be pretty deep, and i'm guessing will be eventually tested anyway...

approx price for either?

i think i'm favoring the kicker.

thanks for the pics!

I will have to wait for SC's e8a to arrive before firming up the clearance issue.

The price for the Kicker Grill is $20 and the Audiobahn Grill will be $15.

The Kicker Grill is cast aluminum and the Audiobahn Grill is stamped steel.

I appears that the e8a will have a rubber ring gasket. I know the Kicker Grill will fit it, but do not believe the Audiobahn Grill will work unless you remove the ring gasket. Since we are working in the "sealed box" world I think the gasket is a must.

ah, cmon, chrome! chrome! chrome! chrome! chrome!

Hmm does that kicker come unpainted? i might paint it to match my box if the clearance is good...

now just to linger some more on the power issue. can some explain why they're comfortable with the 500RMS figure for powering the E8A? On paper that looks ok, but i'm a little wary of giving an 8inch woofer that much power!

what precautions are you guys taking to manage that much power?
