found at least 1 guaranteed grill solution:
http://ucsu.colorado.edu/~brazda/bump_grilles.htm
apparently, this is Ben Milne's personal grill provider for his e8a. i figure that's got to be a good thing. personally, i have no clue as to reputation or anything for this site/guy. but, i think i'll contact him regarding a grill... it is a pretty pricey solution though.

maybe we can all go in together on a similar simple design and get a discount?

here's a much more cost effective grill option... i think.

i saw one of these in a 10" and 12" version at a Circuit City once. it looked as if it had quite a bit of excursion clearance, but i'm not sure how this 8" version is designed. i don't see any clearance figures on the partsexpress site.
i even called Tsunami and their American distributor for my area -- neither knew the vertical clearance. ( wha? ) the best suggestion i received was that the 8" was probably similar in clearance to the 10", and to go to a CC or BB and check if the 10" would fit.

this one is also one i've recently found, but i've really got no clue as to whether it will meet our needs.

it appears to be custom made for the Polk 8" MOMO.
anyone have a clue as to if this might fit?

Phil, if the excursion dimention is the only problem, why not adjust the grill out with some spacers. That would offer the excursion you need.

true, but there have been concerns about how to put a pleasant looking spacer in place that doesn't interfere w/ the trunk hinge. also, this was when there were fewer 8" sub grills on the market. for a long time, the Kicker CompVR grill was just about the only one available, and it has a huge outer radius (when compared to the sub itself).

i may revisit this though, as the Tsunami has a good bit of native excursion clearance and a rather trim outer ring.

thanks for reminding me to think about spacers...

I will ponder this some more.

You could re-hinge the trunk on the bottom so it flips down. I am sure your wife would not that THAT was rice.

ahh... the ole' PJK3's wife "thinks it is rice issue...." i still want footwell lights... and i think i finally sold her on letting me paint my calipers black...

i actually have to run by BB later this week to grab something. i'm going to see if they have one of those Tsunami grills there... the Tsunami rep said that the BB's in my area carry them... since i haven't done more than walk by a BB audio section in months - i wouldn't know...

ACK!!!!!!!!!! I waited too long to get this thing. Now that I'm ready, Elemental Design discontinued the e8A. Should I wait a few more months to see what the replacement looks like, or should I go with another "known" sub? I would like to use William's 8" enclosure.

Try the the Alphasonik 608. I have installed a couple of them and they sound very nice.
