i had both sets of sub inputs conected to the amp. but id still like to do something inside the cabin and yes its a jl 250/1. if i see that its really difficult or i give up too much space i will definitly go w/ wlaurents box and do some sort of port so that the sub can fire into the cabin.

-thanx for all the input guys.

friendly update...

looks like i've figured a way to mount some reasonably sized fans on my current top, and in a good location to provide both intake and exhaust...

William, et al.:

I thought I had half a clue about audio equipment until I started reading this thread. Now I'm convinced I'm clueless about these amps and subs.

What is the differences between a Class A, B, AB, D, etc. amplifier?

I have been toying with the idea of putting together the following setup (once some discretionary money becomes available):
- Alpine 9813 HU
- Focal 165V2 components for the front (I'm not convinced going with the K2's are worth the extra investment).
- Still trying to figure out the rears (do the Kenwoods really sound decent with such high end front speakers?)
- Leaning towards a single, 4-way, amp in the trunk, mounted veritically to minimize the loss of trunk space (one of my major objectives - I haul too much to use the tool well for either amps or subs); the one I'm most leaning towards is the Phoenix Gold Tantrum 600.4 (75Wx4/300Wx2 into 4ohm).
- Leaning towards the WLAURENT 8" sub, maybe even this new e8A.44 you have been discussing here; main reason for WLAURENT's enclosure is, again, minimizing loss of trunk space.

Now the questions:
1) Assuming I go with the Focal speakers in front (and being powered by an amp), what speakers are recommended for the rears that can be powered by the HU? PJK3, I see you are using the Focal 165K2(?), what are you using for rears, and how do they sound? (BTW, I have a MY03, which already has the separate tweeter in the upper door.)
2) Am I being too naive in thinking that I can use a single, multichannel amp to power the fronts and a single sub? If not, would the PG 600.4 work well in this setup? William, you had stated that the e8A.44 sub pretty much requires 5x the power of the fronts to be balanced. Assuming that the PG 600.4 can put out more than 375Wrms into a 2ohm load, (600W if you do the arithmatic, and there is no loss), would this be sufficient? I beleive 75W into the 165V2 is plenty.
3) William, based upon some of your previous experiments with subs in your enclosures, how does the e8A.44 compare? Am I correct in assuming it beats all of the other 8" subs you have tested?
4) (This one is a real kicker - no pun intended) William, how would one order your enclosures? It appears that all links have been removed in the S2Ki store.

BTW, any other suggestions for amps, speakers, etc., would be greatly appreciated, as long is it does not break the bank.

TIA!

if that PG amp supports 2ohms bridged (the manual, implies that it does). then i think you can power both the sub and the front channels off that amp.

depends on how much boom you want, apparently PJK3 is a bigger basshead then he let on

i'm running 450RMS to that sub and it's pretty loud, but in a different car.
Are you near SC_Highlander? get in touch with him, best way to know is to get a listen test in an actual car.
