Default Escort Solo 2

Does anyone have first hand knowledge of this Detector. I was wondering if it was as sensitive as the 8500

Im tired of dealing with the cord issue.

Thanks

Bill

No battery radar is as good as a corded one. Also, it takes (not an exaggeration) 15 minutes top to hard wire a detector in an s2000.

Yep,
I had one. As soon as the battery power started to go all sensitivity diminished. It became a dash decoration and not a radar detector. If you want accurate detection, hardwire a Valentine or 8500. Any install shop would be willing, but it's ridicolously easy. My wife and I did it and now she thinks I'm a handy electronics guru. (I'm not)

We'd help you do the hardwire. If you still want the flexability of the wireless, you CAN hardwire the Solo2. That way if you use it 90% in one car, and 10% in another car, then you could hardwire in the 90% car, and use it wireless in the 10% car.

Thanks for the input guys....Did some checking with some indipendent testers. It seems the Solo 2 is about as

sensitive as the 8500. Only draw back is that its not quite as good picking up ka band. I would have to see how

much. Also how it does with POP ka thats a killer. Think ill call em and see what they have to say. Every site i

looked at gave it 5 stars. Yes i understand its very easy to hard wire a V1 or a 8500, buts that what i was

wanting to get away from. I have a V1 now its aging a bit so im in the market. Anyway ill post what they have to

say......................thanks again

Escort solo isnt a 1/4 as good as a V1. The 8500, although debatable, might put up a fight. There is def nothing BETTER than a V1. (assuming the 8500 is the same) I have had tons of radars, and the V1 is the ONLY one that works (ive had them all except the 8500. the Bel, Cobra, etc.....) Stick to your V1...if its old, send it to V1 and get new software. You WILL be sorry if you switch.

i'll say this much to balance out the V1 commentary.

i love my 8500 and find it to be very worth the money... my fellow V1'ers that i've driven w/ have yet to show me a case where the V1 stomps the 8500...

they are both very good detectors imo.

the Solo2 on the other hand... don't do it. based upon the people i've talked to who have used them, and articles i've read: the battery powered versions are documented to have a portion of each second of their operation time as a powered down cycle to conserve battery life. (i seem to recall it was like they power down for 10 ms x 20 times a second). they are generally tested when wired, so they perform very well (since they don't do this power down routine)... pull the cord however, and there is a notable difference.

so, i would suggest you hardwire, save your money and upgrade your V1 or buy an 8500.
