Default Flip screen head unit in stock location?

I've loved the s2k since it came out and I think it is time that I drop the hammer on the 2006 s2k. I currently own an Audi TT.

Anyway, excuse the newb question. I've noticed that all the monitors that have been put in the s2k has been of the in dash conversion type that has to be molded into the dash in some fashion.

Has anyone been able to get one of the newer model 7" flipscreen HUs into the stock location without interference from the shifter?

Thanks for the help of such a silly question

Without a lot of custom fiberglass work it doesn't fit. You can't install one in the stock location with just a HU swap. You need to do a lot more work to make it fit.

For the time you would spend on fabricating the glass to fit the stock location ( that is assuming you have experience with fiberglass), it would be worth more to me to just find a head unit that does not have a flip face. I have a Kenwood KDC-X889 that I found on ebay brand new $259 shipped, the face doesn't flip and it has 24 bit burr brown dac's, it comes ipod ready, as well as music keg ready, you can turn the internal amp off in case you are running an external amp. Also if you by a kenwood amp with bass management system you can control the amp with your headunit.

OT, but make sure you read up on the changes between 05 and 06 when deciding what you want to buy in the S2000. Fundamental changes are dbw throttle, VSA & stability assist, and DRL's.

I have. I think I'm going to test drive the 05 and see how much they've taken the twisty rear out of the design. I test drove a 2000 and loved it. I know the rear is no longer twitch happy but I'm willing to live with that. As far as the other changes, the only thing that's really bothering me is the seats! I loved the look of the pre 06 seats and now they go and change the seats.

If I can't get the 05 color I want then I'll live with an 06...

Again thanks for all your input.
