I will be installing sound dampener over this weekend. The deamplifier already has adhesive on the backside of it but the overkill closed cell foam needs an adhesive to mount. I know 3m makes some kind of paste adhesive that I could brush on but I'm not sure of the name of the product. Any ideas of this product or others are welcome, thanks!
I applied the acoustic foam over B-Quiet Ultimate sound deadening throughout my S - under the carpet, inside the doors, on the back of the door panels, and all metal surfaces of the trunk.
The adhesive i used was a 3M aerosol called Foam Fast 74 . It is pretty easy to direct it into areas without over-spray. Actually it comes out of the can like string glue. Put it on both surfaces and let it dry a little and then press into place. For sheet metal areas you can't reach, spray excess glue on the foam and put it into place, then remove it for a couple of minutes and then put it back.
This glue dries quickly and the smell does not linger.
Closed-cell acoustic foam is incredibly cheap and incredibly effective for sound deadening (it is also very light for those watching their weight).
Yes, it is Ensolite. I bought it by the yard from a commercial upholstery supplier. They call it "Landau foam". I used the 1/4" thickness for most of the application, and 1/8" foam for areas where the carpet fasteners go.
The adhesive product I used is 3M 74 , not 90. It is very tenacious - something you want in a vehicle exposed to temperature extremes as well as vibrations. I've used other brands in the past that just didn't maintain a grip over time. I've always had good luck with 3M products.
But, I haven't had any experience with the V&S brand.
The Ensolite (closed cell acoustic foam) comes on a large roll. It is 60" wide and you can buy as many lineal feet as you want. One yard (15 square feet) of the 1/4" foam was $7.80 or $ .52 per square foot.
The 1/8" foam is $7.00 per yard or $ .47 per square foot.
I got my foam and sound dampening mats from http://www.secondskinaudio.com/ -- They were supposdly the best product you can buy and my baby doesn't deserve anything less then the best
