Footwell Lighting......
Whats up guys...im at it again.....
Im looking to light up my footwells....
Im gonna go buy some cheap 5" neon tubes and install them....
Quick questions....

2)What is the best and easiest location to wire them up?
Thanks.....

id say wire them into your dome light... that way you would have them in sink... they should screw in with small screws.. just be sure you get them back far enuf to keep from hitting them with your legs... just my $.02
hehe heh heh....i know i need to wire them to my dome light.........
I dont think I want to run wires to the top of my windshield, ...I want to know if there is the same lead thats up there in a more convenient spot...
thatks again...

Take a look at the thread, wiring lights in the footwell. There are a few of us who have added Footwell Lights into our S2000. Modifry sells a device which is simple to install (assuming you can bend/contort easily
); the unit goes for $30. Check with Modifry before you order it.Click here to see pictures of my setup.
Click here for some additional notes to Modifry's instructions. This is a very simple mod. Please note, if you scroll above this post, you will see my original photos of my setup; they are a bit brighter in the photos than reality (hence my redirection to the "corrected" photos above).
FWIW, the 12" neons were a perfect fit under the dash; you will see what I mean when you look at the additional instructions mentioned above.
If you have any other questions, please let me know.
Macgyver also has an interesting footwell light project he's working on. Not much information is known about it yet but Mac has done amazing work on the windscreen and I'd say this would be worth the wait...I am #1 on the list for it
hey InsaneInNC, i like ur set up w/ the neons, but it looks too bright 2 me, like if u had the top up the whole driver + passenger cockpit would be lit up instead of just the foot well, or am i wrong? wat is it like in there?
YOD88,
IMHO, the actual brightness of the neons is just right. Unfortunately, it is VERY difficult for a camera to get it right. The second set of pics I took were much more like the real thing, as opposed to the first set which were way overexposed. As far as I am concerned, the footwell is well lit, but it is not so bright as to illuminate the entire cabin.
Here is a quick way to determine for yourself if it is too bright or not:
- Go to Circuit City and pick up the 12" neon tubes that match your interior color (if black interior, pick whatever color you like).
- Park the S2000 (or for that matter, any car this is going into) where you can control the ambient light (i.e., in a garage).
- CAREFULLY open the package.
- Plug the neon tube into the accessory outlet; the bulb will turn on.
- Turn off the lights to the garage (i.e., make it dark).
- Place the neon tube under the dash in either the passenger or driver footwell.
TA-DA! If you like it, keep the tubes and install. If you don't, CAREFULLY put the tube back into the package, and return to Circuit City.
FWIW, I have received many compliments on the lights from various passengers (mostly female).
