Good soundstage possible?
I'm going to try mounting them in the A pillar (flush) fireing in and up at the dash, running out of phase.
I'll see if bounceing off the screen like this works.. Going to be a while before its all up and running, but i've heard this in a few cars and it worked OK.
I going to be useing a set of the new RF FNQ tweets (purely as i had them lieing around spare!) as there hard domes hopefully this will knock them back a bit, there a bit to bright fireing right at your face (like focals).
BTW it will be running 2 way active..

Just wired my tweeters out of phase on a pillar cross firing. Personally, overall, it sounded better than in phase and sounded GREAT for high vocals but the soundstage of low vocals is a mess. Then I experimented with tweeters at door lock. That location yielded the best result overall, consistent with many suggested but the sound stage is a bit too low for my taste; I like it on the dash. Is there any other way to move the soundstage up without affecting overall soundstage?
Also I heard wiring the sub out of phase helps getting cleaner bass, can anyone elaborate the experience?

"Cleaner" bass has more to do with location and angle of the sub.
Ideally, you'd have it at the rear of the trunk facing rear. With a setup like that, your incident wave would be lined up with your reflected wave for all frequencies.
The further away your sub is from the rear, the more out of phase your bass will be. If you've got your waves coming out just one foot away from the rear, here's what you get:
Hz Degrees out of phase
20 21.1584237
30 31.73763555
40 42.31684739
50 127.1039408
60 63.47527109
70 74.05448294
80 84.63369479
90 84.78709336
100 74.20788151
You can see why you'd get cancellation at some frequencies. Anyhow, there's not a lot of location options in the S so your only option would be to play with the mounting angle.

Phase correct = Billy Joel - River of Dreams
There's a bass line in this song that most subs won't play. It will just sound like a low murmur unless you're in phase.
SPL = Daz Dillinger - My System
Just loud, annoying bass
And of course pink noise is always fun
What I'd really like to have is a good bass guitar solo. I prefer using instrumentals to tune because you have a reference in your head of what it really sounds like...

Just switched the phase of my subs and the previously slightly noticeable murmurs went away. It also reinforced the bass of my mids. Wish I could experiment with changing the angle of my subs but unfortunately my box fits snugly in the trunk well and it won't bulge...
I was also surprised by the improvement of soundstage by moving my tweets from the door lock position to the door panel (farther back into the footwell than the stock mid location.) At that location, the tweets drew less attention side to side so I was able to locate the music source more accurately. Has anyone experiment with tweets in the door lock v.s. stock mid position? How do they compare?
