It's the rear tray behind the seats that seperate the cabin from the trunk. The soft top folds down and rests on it. The top still works fine and the plastic window doesn't touch anything with it removed.

I have a Muz mat so what should I do if I remove that piece? Also, how do I remove it?

I have a Muz mat as well. With this tray removed you don't need it because the plastic window doesn't touch anything when the top is down.

All you do is remove all the clips. Take out the rear tray rear trim first which is easy. Once you remove all the "B" clips from the rear tray, go in through the trunk and push up on the bottom of the tray (there's insulation on this part) to pop the "A" clips along the back. NOTE: You will need to remove the trunk lining along the back so you can get at the tray through the trunk. Once it is free from all the clips you have to tilt the front up (where the "B" clips were) and try to tilt it on an angle so you can get it out through the trunk.

What I did was lift up on the front part (closest to the back of the seats where the "B" clips were. Then I lifted up on the right side (Drivers side) so it was on an angle. Then fed it though the new hole out through the trunk on the passenger side. You will probably have to remove the spare tire before hand.

EDIT: Leave in the left and right rear tray side trim.

Just a mat that lays in that tray so the plastic window rests on something soft rather than the plastic so it doesn't get scratched.

can anyone verify that this is on the '04 model, because i didn't see it and i just dropped in a 10" this weekend with no rattles to be heard from the inside, just the license plate on the outside (and i think the trunk latch)

I just did this mod, rolled down my windows, and cranked the system up, then thought to myself "shit, its still rattling, no, wait, thats my garage!" Haha, great mod! Thanks everyone. My only concern is that with the tray removed there are some sharp edges left around the rear part of the tray, by the trunk. Does the top come into contact with this at all?
