Head Unit / Antenna / Dash Control / Speaker Upgrade
Recently picked up a 2002 Honda S2000. Loving the car! It came with an aftermarket head unit that is old and fairly user unfriendly. I am looking to upgrade to a different head unit that has a front aux port to connect my phone into if it does not have bluetooth built in.
Any suggestions?
The dash controls do not work so I am assuming these were not hooked up with the adapter when the current head unit was installed. The current head unit also only gets one radio station so will be looking into the antenna connection in the trunk.
I also will likely swap out the factory door speakers for something better - any suggestions? Anyone make a good rear speaker addition option? I am just looking for good quality sound when running 80 mph with the top down. No subs / amps etc.
Any input would be great.
Thanks!

You will need an amp to be able to hear anything at 80 mph top down. There are compact amp options (see KTP-445U) that will fit under the passenger side dash.
Dash controls - if the previous owner didn't cut the wiring harness, I'd look into the Modifry DCI.
Head unit and speaker choice is up to you, the thing with speakers is matching them to the power you're sending them and getting them to fit (i.e. don't expect deep ones to fit without cutting and custom spacers).

I just did a make over on my car..
CDE-HD149BT HeadUnit
HAT Unity Components
ARC Audio XDi 450.4
Modrify DCI and harness
Stinger 4 channel RCA (12')
Stinger 16 gauge speaker wire (50')
Ran all new wire into the doors for woofers and tweeters through the oem grommets. soldered deans connectors for the tweeters to allow the removal of door panels. Mounted the crossovers under the seats as I try to avoid mounting them in the doors. I ran the RCA cables down along the center tunnel inside the carpet on the passenger side. mounted the amp in the trunk. The car had a previous amp in the trunk, so I used same mounting point and used the existing power/ground/control wire which were ran on along the passenger side door sill.
Really Impressed with the sound quality. speaker Fitment was really easy. just bought the ebay spacers for the woofers and plug and play fitment. I took a 45mm hole saw and drilled out the stock tweeter mounts (AP1 door panels that have tweeter mounts) and pressed in the HAT tweeters and hit the backs with a little glue to hold. ran the bluetooth mic to A-pillar, trimmed the alpine clip and retained it with a little double-sided tape. I have had it finished now for a few days and it is definitely respectable without a sub, but based on my likes, I plan on adding a sub down the road.
I know apline makes a compact amp to go along with their headunits. I would say that is a BARE minimum to look at. I opted for the unity speakers for the separate tweeter and crossover, but the HAT imagines get great reviews, save you a $110 and makes install a bit easier as many recommend them installed as coaxial (no separate mounting of the tweeter)
IMHO stay with a stereo setup and buy better speakers rather than going for a set of rears. The quality of sound will be better. those that 'want' rear speakers are usually just looking for more; more sound, more speakers rather than looking for quality of sound. at the point you would be willing to go rears, I would personally put that money and effort into adding a sub. It would do much more for the sound stage and your enjoyment than a rear speaker set would
