Head unit help
Hey guy I'm thinking about getting a head unit for Christmas but I know nothing about electronics. So I was wondering what head units are you guys running? How do you like it? Do the controls next to the wheel still work?
An aftermarket HU will not work with the dash controls unless you get the Modifry DCI:

As for what HU to get, you really have to figure out what your end goal is. The install is easy for both an HU and tweeters and mid-woofers.
Think about what your budget is and what your goal is. Just upgrading the HU will not necessarily give you a boost in sound quality. You should also consider replacing the OEM speakers. I think the sticky has some good information you can read:

My sig has my setup and works great for me. I am actually thinking of upgrading to add a small sub and amp but will be working that with a professional installer in my area in the next few months.

I have a Kenwood KDC-X995 in my jeep so I wanted something a bit different and Pioneer had some interesting sound tuning abilities that are uncommon in this price range. Both units play MP3, have USB, and stream bluetooth A2DP for most phones, as well they tie well to iPhones if you have one. The Kenwood has HD so you get some additional stations here and there. The Pioneer has an SD card slot. I haven't bought the Modifry DCI yet, but it is my understanding that both units are compatible.
If you want random opinions you can accomplish the same thing by browsing this subforum. There are a number of threads with discussions on head units.
You need a DCI for any aftermarket head unit. Modifry's is always highly recommended.
If you know next to nothing and you want dash controls then you might want to look at Alpine and get Modifry's PnP harness for Alpine along with the DCI. It makes install a snap. Head unit can be swapped out in minutes with no soldering.
IMHO, the Pioneer DEH-80PRS and Kenwood KDC-X996 are amongst the best single din units for non-competition.
