Default head unit installation help....

MY Alpine Head Unit just came in but the guy doing my install is booked till next weekend. Does anybody have pics or info on how to install a new head unit. All cables and speaker wires have been changed so I just need to swap alpine with the oem.

Thanks a lot

Its pretty easy actually.
Remove the radio door. I used a coat hanger in the 'vent' things to pry it off. Unscrew stock radio, disconnect wire harness and antenna. Hopefully you have a new aftermarket wire harness that's just plug and play.
If your alpine requires a direct battery connection, do that now, run 10gauge power wire to the battery. There is a rubber grommet (hole) on passenger side. You can access the hole from the engine bay better. Remove the battery and you will gain access easier. Once that is done, put everything back and voila. Sorry I dont have pics, but if you search there's some good ones.

No, do not cut the stock harness. Spend the $15 or so and get a harness that will connect to your factory radio harness then solder that to the new radio's harness.

definitely don't cut the factory harness - the harness that mates to it
is readily available, online or at big electronics stores. If you're
installing a Modifry's DCI to maintain dash button usage, get the
harness from him, as it will have the correct wires to hook up the
dash buttons.

Do you have one or more aplifiers installed already?

You mentioned that there was new speaker wire run. If it was run to an Amp, then you need to have RCAs run to the HU. The factory HU does not work with RCAs directly, so you would have some line level converters in place and some additional wiring that would would probably want to remove.

If you do not have an amp, then the speaker wire would be run straight to the exisiting HU and will probably be spliced into the factory wiring. I would remove those splices and protect the factory wiring with tape or heat shring tubing (if possible.) Then wire the aftermarket speaker wire to the harness from the HU.

Because of the extra wiring you already have, you might want to wait until you can at least discuss what you have with the person that installed it.
