Default Head Unit not working iDA - X200

My head unit is doing something weird. Its an Alpine ida-x200 with DCI and MP3 Ipod mounted in the glove box.

Was working fine until my engine blew up and having just sorted everything else, i'm on to fixing it now.

Basically, the screen is black and no response from power switch etc.
However, when i plug the ipod in, the ipod recognises the head unit and goes onto charge.

I have checked all under dash fuses and the in line fuse to the headunit on the yellow wire behind it. Doesn't seem to be any problems there.

This problem may have occurred when i tried the paperclip ems trick and accidentally shorted the Alternator Fuse (uk car hence the same paperclip trick doesn't apply). The alternator fuse has been replaced, but the head unit is still black.

Does anyone have any ideas on what could be causing this? I think my next idea has to be to switch the head unit and see if the unit is fried.

Do you have power to your 12V accessory outlet behind your elbow?
