Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp with Memphis Setup!
Just had a Memphis speaker setup installed monday in my 01 and I'm not exactly thrilled. They installed M Class 5.25"'s in the doors and behind the seat. The ones in the doors have tweeters mounted in the middle of the door about 4 inches down. Speakers are pushed by an M Class 50x4 amp. Hope this is enough info I'm not exactly a electronics expert. Highs are loud and clear but I have to turn the volume way up to feel the bass. I've adjusted the treble and bass every way possible. Thats the main thing I wanted was more bass and just a little louder with the top down. Stock head unit still in and they said that the 6.5" M Class Memphis wouldn't fit because of the window channel or something. Any ideas to help out with the bass? I looked it up and the mounting depth of the 5.25" speaker is 2.52" and the depth of the 6.5" I wanted was 2.75.Thanks,

your problem is you downgraded from 6.5" speakers to 5.25". while that doesn't absolutely mean you'll lose bass response, it's going to be true the majority of the time. i would muster to say that this is 75% of your problem.
2nd...
the other 25% would be Memphis... why are you stuck on just using Memphis (like your amp)? and your dealer is lying to you... the 6.5" should fit fine. i'm using the Focal K2P's which are over 71 mm (2.8") deep. and i know several people who are using the Focal Utopias, which are over 78 mm (3.07") deep! that's way OVER 2.75" deep, so if mine and theirs fit, yours should. they are probably just too lazy or incompetent to build a spacer. take it back.
3rd...
and if you want real bass in this car, 6.5" speakers are going to help, but they aren't going to solve your problems. there's no way you can get real bass that will withstand a top down experience w/o a sub.
Thanks revhi and PJK3, you have helped me alot. I went and talked to them today and they are starting to carry Alpine as of the end of this coming week. They have a truck load coming in and they are gonna switch my Memphis to Alpine R series and put 6.5's in the front. I'm gonna get an Alpine head unit installed also so I kinda like the idea of keeping the Memphis amp since I have heard good things about them and having Alpine speakers to go with the head unitwill be nice. The Memphis stuff has a three year warranty which pulled me in originally. Hopefully this stuff will work out and then I'll just have to figure out which box, amp, and sub to get. I know that I want good quality bass so if you guys have any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again for your feedback, helpful people like you two make idiots like me seem like we know what we are doing when we are totally lost,
