If you used the antenna amplifier output to power the amp it wont work on CD because the antenna amp turns off when the CD is used.
You will need to set up a manual switch or power the amp with the ignition somehow.

Yes sounds like the remote lead was tapped to the antenna. Use an PAC OEM-2 as the line converter it has a built in trigger for an amp. If you don't want the converter a PAC TR-4 Trigger will do the trick. I can get you either unit if you need it. But i wouldn't go any other route.

Sounds like you definitely used the antenna lead - I did the same thing on accident once too. There's a 12V accessory lead in there somewhere (I forget the color) that'll do the trick. Get a voltmeter and find the wire that goes from 0 -> 12V when the key is turned to the accessory position with the stereo off. Wire it to the remote lead on your amp and you're set!

you can directly connect it but a trigger will avoid popping

I'm a little embarrased to say that I did the same thing and actually got pissed at the stereo shop guy for sending me back a defective head unit. I had to have it repaired under warranty and thought they had forgetten to hook up the internal wires for the cd signals. Oooppppppppssssssssssss
