Default Help, anybody know Alpine alarms?

Has anybody had any experience with Alpine alarms? There is a model called SEC150r. Is that any good? Is it better than Clifford or Viper?

I have the 150R.

Its a nice little setup. For under $200 excluding install you get a proximity (radar) sensor and a shock sensor. Not to mention the remotes have a lot of channels and there are a lot of available accesories. One nice thing is that like the Clifford you can adjust your sensors from the remote, so if you need to turn down your proximity sensor because of the conditions, you can.

The only weak point is the siren is kind of wimpy. Its not too loud. So I had my installer hook up the horn. Problem solved. I'm sure you could use a different siren or add a second. They are cheap.

Thanks for the reply. I have a pretty good hookup right now for the 150r and I think I'm gonna get it.
PS I used to live in Boca on Sweetwater Lane.

I also have the 150R. But I'm pretty dissapointed for a couple of reasons.

1. the remotes are crap. They have a very limited range and unlike better quality remotes aren't sealed against the elements. If it gets wet, it shorts, and replacements are around $50.

2. The siren is weak!

3. the proximity sensor is a major pain in the ass. I had my system installed by a reputable installer, but it's impossible to get the prox sensor adjusted properly. If it's set at a sensativity that will alert you to an intruder, you won't be able to park you S on a street, because the passing traffic will set it off. I finally got so sick of false alarms that I adjusted the prox sensor to its lowers/almost off setting--yet it still falses on occasion.

Also while the prox sensor is adjustable by remote, you still have to be in the car to do it.

If I were to do it again, I'd get a Clifford.

Surf,

Where did your guy mount your proximity sensor? Mine works just fine. Maybe its the location.

Also if you read your manual you can adjust the sensitivity by remote without being in the car without hitting valet.

I do agree the siren is weak. Just get a different one.

my prox sensor is located under the cup holder. At first I thought that perhaps keeping change in there might be affecting it. But removing the change hasn't made any difference.

One reason you may have had better luck is that your temperatures are more consistent in FL. Up here, temps fluctate dramatically, and it seems to freak out the prox sensor.

BTW, how do you adjust the prox sensor sensitivity without pushing the under dash valet button?
