Help me choose my parts
It seems like there is alot of audio people that really know there stuff here so.......this is what I ask.
I have a Toyota Tacoma 4x4 reg cab. You guys have talked me into getting an Alpine HU, an 9835 or 9833; Oatnet put a good link in the Deals of the week thread. I leaning toward focal components, but which one is best for my application? I won't be getting an Amp or sub, and I listen mostly to Rock. (no rap)
What is the diff (advantage) between getting a 9833 or 9835?
I guess mainly I need to know which model of Focals is best suited for me.
Please help guys!! and Thanks!

Focals with no amp? Why bother? Top quality speakers only sound good when they have top quality power. That's like buying a ferrari and putting a kia motor in it.
If you are going to get an nice Alpine head unit, I suggest you get a decent set of coax speakers for reasonable money. That head unit is only going to put out about 12-20 watts of clean power. A set of Focals is going to be wanting 40-100 watts. Maybe some Alpine Type S coaxials would work well. I'm sure the guys here will have suggestions on what will work best in your application.

Try the Alpine Type S or the Infinity Reference series. Any speaker with a high sensitivity rating that requires very little power will suit you well. The Focals and other high end models (infinity Kappa perfects, Quarts...) need serious ampage to get them going. They will sound terrible without sufficient power.
I understand about the speakers being under powered, but in another thread someone else wanted a set of Focals without an Amp, and a Focal model was suggested but I don't know which or if it was a good fit for a truck app.
The Infinity Reference series is prolly mine second choice. I would like an amp but its a small cab truck with not much room, not any room I want to give up anyway. And since it is small and only having 2 speakers, it seems silly to buy an amp too.
I just need a simple system, just trying to get a best bang for buck solution. Beside stock radio doesn't even have a clock, I keep time on a little watch out of happy meal
and it drives me crazy!

You think your truck is small inside? Try sitting in an S2000! And they only have 2 speakers too. Notice all the talk you see here about amps. Amps for 2 speakers can be very very small, and fit in a variety of places. You could mount in on the back wall of the cab and never notice it. Or under a seat, or under the passenger side dash. The difference in sound will amaze you.
But beleive us, if you try to push a set of quality speakers with just that Alpine, you are going to be disappointed.

Okay, I think I have decided: Alpine 9833 & Infinity REF6002i speakers. What is a good price on the speakers? Circuit city has them for $99 with buy a 2nd pair for half that. I think I can do better than that, any suggestions? Comments? Thanks fellers!
