Default help me with my ''budget'' setup!

My previous car was a corolla with some expensive jvc cd player, polk fronts, and audiobahn amp with audiobahn alum12q 12 inch sub both at about 1000 rms watts. I want the amp and sub in my s2000, and I figure I'll be able to fit them into the sink spot in the trunk, but I'll need to get a new cd player. I'd like to get as much of a deal as I can; I've read the Entire electronics FAQ and looked at every picture in the install pic sticky. My SO has an alpine stereo so I'd like to do something a little different, but I dont want to sacrifice quality. Is sony good or ? It seems like some people say sony is bad but can't come up with any valid reason. I've also heard good things about pioneer and phoenix, but I'm open to ideas and such. I reckon I'll shop ebay or s2000 for sales for a HU, so if anyone has a GOOD one they recommend, I'm all for it, ALL for it! thanks for your help! I'll get decent bass with my subs right? I went to some shop and they said I wouldn't hear Anything in the front but so many people have identical setups to what I want to do, I doubt the shop knows what theyre talking about, they just want more money.

I'm running out the door so I'll come back to this later but as for Sony... the biggest reason is their quality sucks big time. For the same or a little more money you can get something much nicer that will last longer and give you cleaner power and signals.

I'll be back.

I personally like Clarion head units, I have used them in several cars and not had an issue with them. However, in my new set up I will be switching to Alpine.

What you need to ask yourself is, what do I want to be able to do with the HU, IPOD? Sat Radio? CD's? If you want all of those features, you cant go wrong with Alpine.

These are just my opinion of course, John will have some great Ideas for you as well.

Im not sure where you got your info, but we all provide reasons for our dislike for Sony.

Some of the higher end models are decent (still not my taste) but the mid/low lines just arent good. They are overly digital, their motors (motorized face) are very weak, and break easily, and when you can have better products for less money, why not?

Clarion has always made decent stuff. I too have noticed Sony's quality go down a bit, but then again Alpines are made in China now, not Japan. Anytime a company begins to gain such huge growth, quality begins to fade, just look at Rockfod Fosgate for a good example of that.

I have a Pioneer headunit hooked up to 2 Pairs of MB Quarts. 6 1/2 in the front, and 5 1/4 in the back. This, along with twisted pair wire that I bought at a local audio shop to rewire the doors and run the crossovers to behind the seat, the soldering iron, and solder costed me $280. Of course, the headunit was used, but working very well, and the front speakers were used, but they were in mint condition.

Sound is very clear, and the headunit puts out 22WRMS, which is pretty decent. Bass is strong inside, but not very noticeable from outside. (No more neighbor complaints )The speakers can definitely take more power. With an amp, 200WRMS all comming from such a small cabin will be pretty loud!
