Default Help with Modifry DCI

I tried emailing Bob last week but never got any response. I recently bought the wired version of the DCI for a pioneer head unit. It worked great for about 3-4 days and I loved the new features too.

Well last week I got in my car and the functions were all screwy. Mode is normal but that's it. Volume up does previous track, volume down does volume up, mute does nothing but mode+mute will perform mute. There are a few other querks but I haven't tested it completely as I'm still not familiar with all the commands.

My question is...Is there a setting that could've gotten bumped that I'm not aware of or is the DCI fried somehow? Please help me out...Flipped the cover down every time is extremely annoying.

here's Modifry's tech page:

it's possible that the DCI is bad, but since the DCI measures
resistance when a button is pressed, it's possible you have a
bad/loose connection somewhere which is causing it, or the
headunit, to see bad resistance/voltage values which cause it
to misinterpret the command.

Mines went haywire one day too after I had to switch out my car battery for a new one when it died. Bob was really cool about it and said it probably shorted out and to send it back to him for repair. He quoted me $20 for it. If you've been trying to email him, it seems that sometimes his emails are lost, because I never received one even though he emailed me back several times. Hopefully he'll see your post and answer here.

I have yet to send it back though and will probably do it this weekend.

Since we are talking about odd things the DCI does, for the last week, not on a consistant basis, my IR DCI will raise and lower the volume when driving at a consistant speed. I have not gotten arround to checking the wire to teh speed wire. It has happened 3 times. Also sometimes it does not raise the vol.

Anyone have any ideas? I am thinking it is a loose wire to the speed wire.

I'll try to check my wires and the wired plug in the back of the radio tonight. Hopefully that is it because I don't want to have to drive 4-5 hours home tommorrow constantly flipping the cover down.

Ah, well might I suggest leaving the radio door down? Problem solved!!!

The connections point is a good one, give it a try disconnecting and reconnect the few connectors that exist in the set up. Also, use the printed guide or online version and check the DIP switches, perhaps even flipping them one way then back to where they should be to make sure there's no bad connection in there.

Definitely wouldn't spend $100 on something if having the radio door open was acceptable to me but I assume you were just joking anyway.

I did check the DIP switches yesterday and even flipped them just to make sure. I also pulled the radio and check the mini jack plug and the wires. Obviously, I wasn't going to resolder the wires but everything looked to be in order and I pulled and reconnected all the normal plugs. The radio controls are sending a signal but I believe the DCI is just misinterpretting the signals... When I changed the mute DIP switch to the other setting, it changed what some of the controls did and not just the mute button. Everything went back to the original messed up configuration when I switched it back.

Hopefully Modifry will chime in soon but I understand it's Thanksgiving now and he probably won't.

For the 2 of you that has the volume fluctuate up and down when it should not, check the speed sensor wire and make sure it is soldered on. Mines did that too and the connection was bad.
