Default HID Lights - How long do they last?

I sometimes like to run my HIDs during the day, since they look soooo sweet, and especiallly on cloudy days to make myself more visible (safety).
Is this a bad idea?
Do HID bulbs have a short life expectancy?

What am I in store for if I find myself having to replace HID parts?
Cost of bulb, ballast, ignitor, etc?

Thanks.

Or you can get them from this guy, I've bought all my D2S capsules from him, great seller super cheap.

OEM Phillips part # 85126
akinaboy

Or

OEM Osram/Sylvania part # 66040
akinaboy

The Phillips is a bit brighter, the Osram has a bit of a bluish hue/tint to it. I personally like the Phillips better.

Also, as HID capsules get older they lose lumens and are not as bright as they were when new.

Dan, how can $274.34 be a better price than $60 - $90 shipped?

[edit] I don't trust a major bulb purchase from eBay... sidemarker lights, okay, but not an HID bulb. Too much fake crap out there, and with the high voltage/heat from HIDs, it's not something I would chance, too many opportunities for fire and such. Not to mention the bulbs on eBay are used...

Your mileage may vary...

Oh, I forgot to mention... those are D2R bulbs you linked to... if memory serves, we need D2S.

Well, as far as the seller i linked, it's been about 5 years now and not one single problem with his capsules. All are OEM Phillips and Osram.

And as far as the D2R's, those were just an example
