hidden radar detector
all of those test sites are crap.
heres a real world opinion.
ive had an escort passport 8500 and 8500 X50 (red) for the last like....literally 8 years. Driving from Portland Oregon to Seattle Wa, i could pick up a cop about a mile and a half out on flat land. thats worth it to me. No it does not have directional arrows.
its been great over the years and saved my buns many times. as for the legality, im normally carry about 50mph wherever i go other than some residential. freeway you can find me at 75 all day regardless of what the posted speed limit is.
my one complaint is that i seem to get a rather large number of false "POP" signals. i think this has to do with the electrical system in the car creating some sort of "field" that sets off the detector at just the right throttle, just the right electrical load etc.
is it worth 330? i dunno...id buy one used for like 200 and have it serviced at escort for 69 bucks.

i have been driving with a hidden radar detector for about 6 years in my s2000. it is the bel rx75. it has been a very good radar detector, i have only got 1 ticket in it by laser(very hard to beat laser). i mostly got this type of detector is so i can leave the top down so i don't have to keep removing the radar detector. keep in mind the radar unit goes behind the front bumper about 2 foot off the ground. in my opinion the higher a radar detector is, the longer/better the reception. also, the lower it is, the more the signal is blocked by the traffic in front of it. the key to a good radar detector is speed smart with it, follow a car going as fast as you and let him be the target. passing people and driving in the fast lane is just begging for a ticket. this unit has the option for a laser jammer,i did not opt for it, though i wish i did. good luck with your decision
I have a had an Escort Passport for several years now and highly recommend getting one if you want a hidden radar detector. The RD sensor is intended to be mounted on the front bumper, but I relocated it to the interior(1, 2, 3) to reduce wear and increase sensitivity. I can't tell if moving the sensor inside helped to improve sensitivity, but everything has been working reliably for years.
They're more reliable than real world opinions. Under the right conditions any RD can have miles of range.
The 9500ci does have very good detection but Escort claims that their windshield mount Redline is equivalent in sensitivity. Whether that really means anything is another matter. I think Escort has a newer model that you might want to look into.
As always, read up using a countermeasures site. The info on S2KI is quite limited. It's a good site for info on the S but there's nothing really specific to the S with RD's that would make S2KI a great RD resource IMO. People just tend to recommend whatever they're using around here.
Neither of those are relevant to the OP.

I'm using the valentine v1 mounted behind the rear view mirror with the remote display on top of the heat vent on the driver side. This will give you WAY WAY WAY more than enough warning for Radar (Ka band for newer cop cars, K band for older ones, X band = useless, laser = you're about to get a nice ticket)
With that being said, a radar alone is no longer enough to save your buns! You also need a laser jammer, i'm using the blinder M27 extreme. It's nice it will block the first laser hit, then not block the second one so that the cop can't detect your jammer. All it says on the cop's lidar is Error 2, instead of Error 1 (which is jammer detected) So once you get hit on the first one, you have about 5 secs to slow the hell down)

you're welcome. I only wish I had seen this prior to buying my V1
