Default Honda Keychain Transmitter/Keyless Entry

Bought a 01 as a lease return, and of course, no keyless entry transmitters were turned in by the PO. Dealers want $80-$90 for a new one. Since I have the instructions from this board on how to program a new transmitter into the S's computer, does anyone know if any of the universal transmitters for car alarms that sell at Best Buy, Circuit City for about $30 can be made to work on the S2000? Or does anyone know what frequency they hondah ones transmit at as that may help if I decide to buy a universal and try it out. Or how about if the one Honda uses is used by another japanese manufacturer that may sell it cheaper?

Many thanks in advance.

You might want to check ebay, I've seen Honda remotes for $20-$30 in the past. I don't know for sure but I bet a remote from other Honda models will work. You could always ask the dealer to verify the remotes are interchangeable.

I was told by a parts guy that the s2000 was different, but am not sure it was accurate.

if you keep an eye open, the remotes pop up for sale here fairly often in the For Sale/Classifieds forum.

i've generally noted they run about $25 - $40 depending on shipping options.

you might also want to contact hardtopguy, as he ususally has notably lower prices than your average dealer.
