HU install problem
I recently installed my Kenwood Hu with ipod interface and after everything was said and done the clock on my tach resets everytime i turn the car on. Also the check engine light comes on, not the maint. required light but the check engine. I removed my HU and installed the stock again to see what would happen and everything went back to normal. I re-installed the Kenwood Hu and the same problems arose. Can anyone tell me what I need to do to fix this? Everyones help is much appreciated.

Did the Kenwood head unit itself work properly?
I would check to see if the HU is wired properly. It sounds as if it is causing a circuit problem -- either it blew a fuse that controls memory power to the clock, or it is drawing too much power from a circuit. Maybe see what is shared in common with the clock. Does the S2K have any breakers in the fusebox under the hood, or is it all fuses?
If this was an older car with a simple clock, I would have some suggestions. But I have a feeling that the S2K clock, integrated as it is, may be more intimately tied into the electronics than a standalone clock. The fact that you're also throwing a CEL makes me think the ECU is involved as well.
I will take a wild guess that the main power lead to the Kenwood might be hooked to the wrong +12V from the vehicle radio harness. There should be a high power switched positive that will go to the main power of the radio, and then a low power (constant +12V) that the head unit uses for its own clock/preset memory.
Actually, some higher power Kenwoods have yet a third +12V for main power (which should be run to the battery or a high amp fuse tap) and then the switched +12V from the harness only serves to flip a relay. You still have the low power constant +12V for memory.
If any of the +12V leads are mixed up, the radio could easily be demanding too much power from the respective circuit. Normally it would blow a fuse, but I am not familiar enough with the S2K electrical system to rule out other possibilities. So I'd say to double check all the +12V lines.
Good luck!
