Default I don't like snipping wires

I've seen the Modifry page for the directions on how to snip a couple wires behind the seats and have a cig lighter that'll actually charge my cellphone while i'm not driving.

I'm sure it's effective, but it's not tidy enough for me, so I'm wondering if perhaps those 2 wires terminate in a connector somewhere that I could swap? Is there a joint further upstream that I can do some creative swapping through?

Barring that, can I pull the whole glovebox somehow and swap the power wires at the plugs in the box? How would I go about removing the box?

I'm almost at the point of just running a new +12v from my stereo harness and hiding it above the footwell, and keeping the charger in the cargo pocket so you can't see where the wires are hiding, but this is my distinctly last thing I'd like to do.

Anyone have any ideas for me that don't involve a butt-splice or a vampire tap? Thanks!

I remember somewhere somebody had a couple pictures of the exact spot you could drill to add another power socket on the passenger side below the radio area (that small triangleish shapped piece of plastic that is held on by one screw and some pressure clips)... might look into that, I imagine that'd be the cleanest way to do this and your charger wouldn't be on the armrest the whole time (annoying!).

Looks slick, but I can't help but think passenger knees are going to get in the way of it. Hrm, it's a decent solution though. You have PM.

It is not worth removing the glove box for this. This is a bigger job than you think.
I'm not sure where you are looking to place the phone but there are abundant wires to tap into.
You could always buy a second charging cable and hardwire it. Then run the cable under the center console, through the ashtray so it can be tucked away when not in use, under the seat etc. You don't have to be limited to the hulking lighter type connection.

In stock form, the trunk release button is always hot while the cig lighter is only hot when the key is switched to ON. I cut these two hot wires behind the seats, crossed them with each other, and then soldered and heat shrinked the new connections. No problems if the wire connections are done correctly that way.

I believe that both the cig lighter and trunk release button (in center compartment) come from the same plug. If true, you could swap the two wires in that plug. I saw a post either here or on Modifry's website about this plug. Keep serching.
