Ok...Now we're getting somewhere.

You'll need to be more specific even.

Price range or doesn't matter?

What features are you looking for specifically?

Top of the line would be Alpine 9887, Pioneer 880-PRS, or Eclipse CD7200mkII.

Which one you want depends on how you like your sound and how much you want to be able to adjust that sound.

Alpine's known to have a very harsh sound. Eclipse is the only one to have 8V pre-outs. Pioneer and Eclipse both have warmer tones.

Nope. Not for sound quality.

Try to play a CD in that IDA-x100 Or run that IDA-x100 in an active setup (definitely the highest sound quality). Or use all the sound adjusting features of the 9887.

(And for those of you that think Ipod = CD quality, 320kbps =/= 1.2Mbps). When you convert CD to mp3 or AAC or WMA, you lose a whopping 9/10's of the audio data. 9/10's! How do you think the file can be compressed so much?

I have the 9887 and it is overkill for a convertible. Not only that but for iPod primary use the display is not as nice as the X.

I have a CD7100, and I would argue that it's not at all overkill. I run an active setup, and yes, there is a HUGE difference in overall tonal balance between my speakers. I have a buddy with the same door speakers using my old 2-chan amp (Audison LRx 2.150) and it sounds nowhere near as good/clear. It was definitely a noticeable improvement in sound quality switching to an active setup (which requires CDA-9887, CD7200mkII, or D880-PRS)
