Default i need help! my camcorder doesn't have rca inputs...any ideas?

I'm running a camera mounted to the front of my car, to my digital videocamera inside the car. The camera mounted to the car has rca outs. My digital videocamera has no rca inputs...as a matter of fact, the only thing I see on here that says "in" is DV IN/OUT...and it's a tiny tiny input. It has an S Video ID-2 i guess output? And it has an AUDIO/VIDEO ID-2 area (don't know if it's input or output) that looks about the size of your standard headphone input. I know absolutely nothing about these kinds of things. Does anyone know if there are any adapters out there so that somehow I can get this thing hooked up to my camcorder? I can't believe that a 1300 dollar digital camcorder doesn't even have rca inputs.

I know a lot of that probably doesn't make sense, but I have no clue about any of this stuff.

Am I looking at having to buy another camcorder? Any other ideas?

Post the Manufacture and Model number of your cam and maybe someone can help. I know that with the cams getting smaller, the larger old style RCA plugs are being replaced with mini (1/4") plugs. For video/audio out mine has these and came with the cable required to plug in a standard VCR or TV.

It's a Sony DCR-TRV25. When I take the panel off to get to the different input/outputs, I see one with a picture that looks like a cactus, one that's LANC, a DV IN/OUT, and S Video ID-2, and Audio/Video ID-2, a mic and a mic power input.

Maybe that Audio/Video ID-2 will work, but I don't know if it's input or output...or even what kind of adapter I need to get to go from RCA to whatever this things is. Normal headphones fit this input, but I don't know what it's really supposed to be used for. What is ID-2? I notice this Audio/Video input (or output) and the S Video input(or output) both have the ID-2 after their names. Are they used together?

Anyhow,
Thanks again,
Dave

Really small-ass cameras use a special jack that looks like a headphone (walkman-style) plug. That plug leads out to 3 RCA connectors.

Read your manual and check for it.

This link has the cable I am talking about (it's the one on the bottom)

http://www.monstercable.com/home_av/video_...s/camcorder.asp

Drop by your local electronics store and see if they have it.

EDIT: I saw your model #, and your camera is listed as having AV in/out, so it's there - in fact, it's listed as including the cables! Check your box!

awesome, I noticed on the webpage that it says it'll let me hook my camcorder up to my tv. Will this work for input as well? Will it work in my situation...from a camera lens, through this wire to my camcorder for recording?

you are the man! I really appreciate that. I get confused with wiring (obviously)...especially with whether or not something can be input and output. You just saved me a lot of headache!

Thanks again!

alright, I've hit another speed bump. It would really be helpful if I knew where my instruction manual was. Ok, let me get this straight, I need to put the camera in VCR mode, then I hit record and the other button at the same time to start recording. How do I get the camera to switch from its own lens, to the one on the front of my car? It appears to be recording nothing at all. Although, i hear a bunch of static when I put my camera in VCR mode (without recording or playing). I don't know, any ideas for round 2? Almost there!

nevermind. I'm a moron. Had the mic and video cables switched. I appreciate everyone's help!

It works great, if I can just find a good place to mount the mic so it doesn't pick up so much wind.

Thanks again everyone,
Dave
