I figured it would be something like that.

On a side note, the new Pioneers are a bit smart.

The N1 and D1 have an optional gauge input (speedometer and tachometer)....the speedo connection is useful if you are using navi, and lose reception for a sec, it can still calculate based on your speed. Problem is, the HU knows you are actually moving, so grounding them doesnt solve the problem. They are "unbypassable." However, if you dont connect the speed sensors or tach sensors, then you can do the trick.
