Default Installed a 10" sub, amp, and headunit...

As title states, I installed an alpine head unit, 10" JL audio sub, and amp (cannot remember the specs offhand).

The bass is better, and obviously the sound is better, but when I am on the highway I can barely hear my music over the engine.

My gut is telling me that the stock S2000 speakers are just terrible...will replacing these help significantly? Not looking to spend too much--any recommendations?

Finally, I was just curious as to what you leave your settings on for the subwoofer/bass/treble etc. on the headuint I usually keep my sub level on at +3, and the bass at the lowest point (-7) otherwise it gets distorted. (not sure if this makes sense, do all headunits use the same settings?

Thanks.

The door speakers are in a terrible location I recommend you get the pods and mount a set of 6.5s behind the headrest of the seat, makes a HUGE difference on the highway and with the top down.

Your settings seem kinda out of wack, you should read up a bit on tuning the amp and exactly how to choose the correct settings for your system, its hard to give advice b/c everyone has different needs. But it sounds like if your sub is distorting the gain on your amp is way too high.

you need better speakers and an amp to drive them, or you can go the speakers in your headrest route

I have 100x4 for the 6-1/2s in the front and 5-1/4 components behind the seats. Loud and clear now...

Yeah the ap1 speakers are the first thing to replace. No point in getting all those other parts and keeping stock speakers hah. Gonna sound horrible.
Get nice set of components and run them off your amp. Will sound infinitely better.
I can hear my system easily even doing 100 with top and windows down and I have a loud exhaust.
