Default Installed amp, cutting off on higher volumes

I finally ended up purchasing the Alpine 240 4-ch amp for my Kappa perfect 6.1 system. Currently running the stock HU using speaker-level inputs on the amp directly. I find it that if I turn the volume above ~17 the amp cuts out, then cuts back in continuously. I discovered that if I turn the bass & treble adjustment to -6 on the HU I can increase the volume up to 23 before it starts cutting again. Anyone have info why this is happening?

Did you run new wire from the amp to your xover and from there to your speakers in the door???

I ran 18 gauge wire from the door to the amp inputs. And 16 gauge back from the amp to the crossovers(in the door)

Is your wiring ohm stable? I've seen this when a - you don't have enough power, but you seem to, and b - when the sub is wired for an ohm load that is too low for the amp. Check what your amp can handle, and make sure you wired your sub to an appropriate tolerance - is it a dual voice coil sub?

Is your car running or not....?

Seriously - if your car is not running, the battery alone will not provide adequate voltage to the amp as the battery is pretty week.

Happens car running or not. I'm going to try running it in unbridged configuration see what happens.

Have you properly tuned the amp? Is the amp clipping? This sound like the amp is clipping and then sending itself into some sort of "protect" mode. Make sure the signal input on the amp is set to whatever the head unit is putting out (not sure what a LOC converter converts the high level speaker outputs to). You want to match that with the input adjustment on the amp. If you just installed it and cranked it up, you are probably clipping the signal, and sending the amp into protect.

Is there a "clip" or "protect" light on the amp? If so, the clip light should flicker no more than 1/3 of the time. Any more than that, and the amp might protect.

Check the FAQ on how to properly tune the amp.

If you have a multi-meter, check the voltage (across + and -) at the amp when it starting to shut down. Most amps have a low power cut-off point.

You will also want to check your main power and ground wires to see if they are getting hot.

Perhaps it is the stock head unit and the line level inputs are causing your issue.
