Default Installed stereo over the weekend, Problems with..

Ok, so over the weekend I installed the following - Alpine 9855, Infinity kappa perfect component set up front (xovers behind the seats), Alpine type S rears (cut pannels behind seats, and I am running those off of the head unit), Alpine MRP F-240 (bridged for the Kappa Perfects), the Alpine Sirius unit, and an Infinity Basslink 2. I ran all new speaker wire for everything. I ran 1 set of rca's for the basslink on the subwoofer pre out, and another set to the amp from the front preout. I ran 4 guage from the battery to a distribution block and then ran 8 guage to the basslink and the amp. I grounded them to the same place (one of the bolts by the rear passenger strut). Some more background - I installed the Head unit about a week ago and it was working fine. I just used a honda wiring harness that I got at best buy and ran it on the stock speakers because I wanted to play with that before the weekend when I was gunna do the rest of the install.

Ok, so after everything was hooked up I wanted to test it before I put it all back together (I had the seats out, and almost all of the interior pannels). So I plug the head unit back in (only using like 3 of the wires out of the honda harness now, the rest is now RCA and running the rears directly off of the alpine harness), I heard sound right away, it went away for like 2 seconds, then it came back and everything sounded good, no issues. So I put it all back together, took a beer break, and came back to start tuning it. once again I turned the stereo on, hear sound right away, it went away for a few seconds and it came back. Didn't think anything of it. I got it all tuned and dialed in, sounding good. Went back inside, came out a few hours later to go to the store. So I started the car (for the first time), heard sound right away, then it went away for a few seconds, then it came back but this time I couldn't do anything on the head unit (I was trying to turn it down). The display looked normal, but none of the buttons would do anything (other than source/power, I could turn it off and change the source). And then all of the sudden the sound went away again for about 10 seconds this time, then it came back, but I still couldn't do anything on the head unit. I shut the car off. Started the car back up, and this time the sound came on right away, went away for a few seconds, then stayed on and I could do all things normal on the head unit. At this point I was very very confused. I ripped everything back apart (other than the seats, they stayed in), and double check all of my wiring. Everything was fine. Posotives and Negatives were all how they should have been. All the wiring behind the head unit was good. So I was pissed and went to bed. Today I get up to go to work, and the same thing happens. Sound right away, goes away, comes back, then goes away, comes back, goes away, the whole time I cant do anything on the head unit. Shut the car off at a stop light, turn it back on, same thing. The next stop light, I turn the car off, and back on. Sound right away, goes away for 2 seconds, and then it came back, and everything was normal on the HU. I am very very confused with this. Sorry for the novel, but I figured the more info the better Thanx in advance for any help!!

Oh yeah, I have narrowed it to the head unit because ALL of the sound goes away and I am running the rears directly off of the head unit and the fronts off of the amp...

Where did you ground the head unit?

I am not an electronics guru, not even close, but seems like if the HU was OK and seems like it may be power related, did you change how the HU gets power or how it is grounded?

I did. I ran a 10 guage directly from the batter to the HU and grounded it to a bolt behind the HU (found the bolt to use on this forum). So when I first noticed this problem, that was the first thing I tried. I swapped it back to get power and ground from the stock harness and it didn't fix it, same thing... That was my first guess too

you didnt mention how u hooked up the rear speakers. if you used all new wiring for everything, did u just splice the best buy harness at line level? Maybe a short there? otherwise, id try to revert back to how it was a week ago, and see if the HU still does the same thing. If it does, you HU is probably fried for some reason.

I thought of that too, but wouldn't the rears still work if that was the case?? Since those are ran right off the HU??

Ok, I just found out that it has to do with the sirius tuner. I unpluged the AI-NET cable from it and the HU started up just fine and normal (3 times). I pluged the cable back into the sirius unit and it made the HU mess up again. So now I have to figure out if its the Head unit that is messed up (AI-NET in), or if its the sirius tuner.......
