dont use IR if you can use wire. id recommend 57 for extra line of display... better when browsing through tons of items. dash controls does not navigate ipod..but can change/skip songs, volume, change mode from cd to ipod to radio, etc

I hooked my iPOD up to the factor 2004 stereo in my S using the USA SPEC PA11-HON2

You can find them for around $100 new. No need to go to the trunk, it plugs right into the back of the headunit. I snaked the cable out through the console up in the passenger foot well and tucked the unit into the little pouch on the side of the transmission tunnel.

Took me maybe 10 minutes to install

That sounds about right. Except 9857 doesn't use Ir, but the 9856 does. 9857 uses a simpler direct connection, and the 9856 is trickier. I guess that is another plus for 9857. I still need to pick up my DCI so I can have my dash controls back, but I have gotten used to not using them now.

I just ran my new fullspeed cable from my 9857 and I stuck my nano in the storage net. I would've liked to put it in the secret compartment but was weary about drilling a hole in it. It works for me now all I need is modifry's DCI.

I got to use my friends Ipod with his pioneer and ipod adapter, and it wasnt the best product. Its extremely slow. If you have more than 500 songs, forget about using the adaptor, u have to search 3 songs at a time, and everytime u refresh the 3 songs, it take a couple seconds, not to mention if you leave the list and go back, it always starts back at the top.

For me and generally speaking from all the research I did, most people prefer just to hook up the ipod via usb, rca, or aux ports, and use the IPODS interface instead of having the radio control the IPOD. The radios are not at the point where they can emulate the Ipod's interface.

Thats my take on it, needless to say, I have an 80 gig ipod coming, along with an SIK Imp and pioneer rca to 3.5 mm adaptor.

All i need now is to figure out how to mount the ipod!
