because the pre-amp is exactly that... pre(before)amp(amplifier).

pre-amps are a cleaner output and they are designed for that purpose... to be a clean output for the amp.. the headunit's amplified output would have to be reduced before being amplified again. in the amp, unamp, reamp process - each piece of equipment introduces some distortion, which you are amplifing again...

TR-S2k got the rest of it good...

the MX stuff is somewhat BS, but somewhat not... mainly it's a misinterpretation due to ignorance... but the decision is leave it off. it's a glorified loudness button that doesn't do a very good job... if you must, use it at very low volume levels only.

check out the thread where i helped shortbloke tune his system... i've got more info on MX in there.

Well, its 12:30 and me and my friend just finished reinstalling the speakers and crossovers.

There wasnt a problem with the speakers, it went really smooth, however with the crossovers we spend a lot of time.

Heres why, first I insisted on having the CO's in the trunk due to bling purposes as stated above, and picked up about 40 feet of 14 gauge speakerwire.

First problem came up when I realized that there is no extra wiring for the tweeters going in the doors. Its the same output from the HU and splits in to 2 for woofer and tweeter meaning that I needed to rewire the whole front end. I needed 6 set of wires ( x2) running to the back and front (2X signal for 2 CO's, 2X signal from CO's to woofers, 2X signal from CO's to tweeters) also runnig these wires from the dash to the doors is not my speciality.

Then we also realized that we dont have enough wire, we maybe had enough to have half of the stuff covered.

Then we decided to not run cables to the doors and just stick the crossovers to the doors as PJK said. however it was too late and I already had the middle console, radio door, radio and all the harnesses yanked out. So while I was putting that stuff back in my friend removed the doors and we ran some cables from Co's to the speakers and main signal wires from HU and after a lot of wiring and isolating we were done.

Current setup is alpine to the door crossovers to the tweeters and woofers. I listened to it on the way back from my friends garage, it souded pretty nice, as stated above the bass is much nicer since there is no gap and sound is clearer and the tweeter is obviosly louder than it was before, which I am fine with. Thriller and Genie in a Bottle sounded very very nice. I cant imagine how much nicer it will get after 300/2, since right now they are taking 20 watts rms from my HU.

Tnx to everyone for their help.

Oh and by the way I have recived the 12W6v2 today and I was like damnnnnn. That thing is huge, looks really nice, cant wait to get it installed.

Good job andy......I wasnt around last night, or else I would have told you 40 feet of wire to run crossovers to the trunk is not enough.

And yes Phil you are right, brain fart.....its Amp in, woofer/tweeter out on the crossovers..... And the Kappas, tweeter settings are -4db, 0db,+5db. I have mine set on +5db

Glad to hear everything is falling into place Andy. Keep us posted!

I have left mine stock, I had no energy for tuning that.

Guys is it me or does everyone get so excited when they get a huge sub? This thing is so heavy nad it sits right next to my 500/1 waiting, its killing me just to look at thateveryday on the floor.

I found that the stock tweeters are just wired in parallel with the stock woofer and have a resistor on them to block bass frequencies. It'll make your tweeters really unhappy to have a full range signal going to them when they expect a happy high pass signal from the crossover.
