Default Kappa Perfect 6.1 Install Help!

Okay I must be missing something here. I have searched and probably read at least 10 different threads where it says you can mount the Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.1 components without any drama, using the stock baskets with the back cut off. For some reason, I can't get that tactic to work "right".

I took apart the door, no problem.
Routed new speaker wire (2 sets) into the door for the new woofer and tweeter.
Put the new tweeter into the tweeter pod.
Now comes what I thought was the easy part: mounting the woofer.
I cut the stock basket so that basically it has the ring left.

Now I can't for the life of me get the holes to line up. My speaker has four "slots" on the outer ring but they refuse to line up with the stock baskets holes. What am I missing?

The layout I am trying goes

Door metal -> XTC Baffle (with bottom cut) -> stock basket ring -> kappa woofer.

Anyone have pictures of the woofer mounted to the stock ring? did you have to drill it?

Thanks.

Dont worry buddy, Ill sort you out.

You do NOT line up the woofer with the ring you made. Take the ring, place it on the speaker, then, from the speaker, DRILL screws from the INFINITY mounting holes into the ring PLASTIC, NOT THE HOLES.

Then, drill the ring holes, back into the car....get what Im sayin??

Thanks NFR -- that is basically what I did (drilling new holes into the stock basket ring) but thought I was doing it wrong based on what I had read.

So as long as I drill some new holes into the stock plastic ring and mount the woofer using those I'm all set right?

NFR always has the answers. I'm going into my component install with confidence just on some of the threads he's responded to.

I didn't need to drill anything.. I just followed the instructions that came with the speakers..

mount the goldish ring on the basket ring using holes on teh basket.. just gotta match up the holes.. then mount the speaker on the ring using screws that came with speaker..
