Default Keyless start

I like the Start button, but hate having to use the key too. It would be slick to use the keyless start function that a lot of cars have now (just keep key in pocket and it recognizes you when you get in). How sweet to just get in and push the button.

Are there any aftermarket kits to do this?

Keyless start i.e. Remote start is illegal in most places for manual transmission equipped vehicles. I know there are kits for it. The process you describe is similar to what many new Mercedes offer. I'd imagine retroing a kit like that onto our cars would be quite expensive.

Don't think this is what he is looking for. He is looking for the type that will allow you to keep your key in your pocket and sense the key.

Compustar is the only one you should consider. It has a safety for manual transmission cars. However, make sure a pro installs it, as Compustar is an EXTREMELY difficult alarm to install. The going rate is give or take $600 (for installation only.)

Yes, Compustar is the best remote start, and really the only one you should get for a manual transmission car...

But, like CHOWBOX said, that's not what the OP is looking for.

I don't know if anyone makes an aftermarket keyless ignition. It would have to have something to take care of the steering lock, since the factory key does that mechanically. I really think you're just gonna have to suffer through the hardship of turning your key.

probably have to custom fab something, you would need a sensor to sense the key code and activate the ignition and accesories within a certain range.. would probably be expensive to set up

It actually shouldn't be to hard.. you would have to have that device, say take it out of another wrecked car or something. then just use relays..
Hardest part would be finding the actualy transmitter and receiver for cheap.

If anyone knows a detailed sequence of how the car allows you to start the car, aka immobilizer procedures, steering lock, etc. we could build a microcontroller with RF receiver and just program the outputs to do whats needed.

You could then carry around a pre programmed RF key and once you are in range, the car would unlock and put itself into acc II, which then you would just push the clutch in and hit the start button. The start button could be wired into the microcontroller so that when you press it the microcontroller could start the car, and then when you press the start button again, it would turn off the car,and lock the car once you are out of range, kind of like the newer cars.

I mean we have already built systems to open doors with preprogrammed RF keys, and all kinds of other stuff, so anyways, I could turn this into my friend
