Kicker 8" woofers
I am wanting to get a set of the kicker ssmb8's. THey are a 8" mid bass woofer that work in a free air enviroment. I believe their to be two options for mounting, behind the seat in the rear speaker location or in the doors. My question is what kind of room is their in the rear speaker location as these magnets are shallow but wide and has anyone managed to get an 8" driver in the door before? If so where would you put your coomponent speakers? Idealy i would like my components AND 8"s in the door. Is this possible?
i ran these in my last car. I can tell you they are indeed very shallow. However they are hugely wide (obviously 8"). They will also work much better if you have a bandbass crossover setup with them. 80-150hz with a 24db slope minimum. BTW these will sound awesome with the SS562 components which btw will fit great in the oem speaker location and in the plastic cup (with only the rear cut out)
i dont think you'll be able to install these 8s into the doors unless you do a custom fiberglass panel. The rear will also likly not work unless your able to make a 7 3/4" cutout for the woofer.
measure 100 times cut once! lol I honestly think you'll have much better sucess with the SSMB6.

the ssmb6 will fit in the doors assuming you dont mount your midrange for your component set in the doors. (which would result in a loss of sound)
keep in mind the SS midbass SSMB6 and SSMB8 are only designed to run between 80 - 400hz with 80-150 being ideal for the best gutiar bass.
I would try and flush the SSMB6 into the kick panel near your feet and cutout that flat area and seal it off with dynomat or something similar to make a small enclosure. That should work well and allow to you keep your components in the doors where they belong.
behind the seats might also work, but i dont know how well you'll be able to hear it through the seats. :/
