LEDs + Blinker Relay Problem
Note: If it makes a difference I have Audi style LED lights, LED front turn signals, as well as LED sidemarkers.
I used Modifry's tutorial for modding the blinker relay for LED turn signals (the one here ) using the 3-Amp diodes from radioshack (here). That was probably about a year ago, and it worked like a charm. A couple months ago I switched my ECU to the AEM EMS though, and for some reason I've been getting "hyper-blink" ever since. That's not the oddest part though... for whatever reason, the hyperblink fluctuates. Sometimes it will be ok (normal speed) for a few seconds, and then go into hyperblink, other times its constant hyperblink... there isn't really a consistency to it, but it's never more than 10 seconds or so... very random...
But wait, there's more! Lol... The oddest part is that when the car is not running (key set to on, but engine not running) it hyperblinks 0% of the time and works normal 100% of the time...
I'm sooooo confused! Any advice? This is really starting to bug me. If there's no way to get it back to how it would work OEM (normal when all lights are working, hyperblink when one is out) like with the previous fix is there a way to kind of "disable" hyperblink so it won't ever happen? I thought I read somewhere that if I replaced the 3-amp diode with something with a lot more resistance that it would do exactly that... is that correct?
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! I'm desperate here.
Thanks,
-Will

there is a lot less voltage in your electrical system when the engine is not running.
I didnt read the modifry link but basically, because LED lights draw less current than incadescent light bulbs, they change the behavior of the turn signal relay which USUALLY uses a bi-metallic strip that bends one way or another as it heats and cool to create open and closed circuits for your blinkers.
the aem ecu change out could be just a co-incidence, those diodes could be going bad, or... In any case, fast blinkers when doing LED swap outs may mean not enough resistance in the circuit which cycles up the blinkers, hope this helps...

Is it possible for you to replace the signal relay with an electronic LED flasher?

I'm trying to learn more about using LEDs for turn signals. My hope is to eventually convert all of my exterior lights to LEDs.

still have this problem. Anyone have any ideas on a possible fix?
