I added a small Pioneer sub in the passenger foot well today. The result was surprisingly good at a low cost. Click the picture for a small story and more pictures from the install.

Very nice! Does it keep the coffee hot as well?

No, but it vacuums the carpets daily!

I am curious what the frequency response is? Its hard to believe a 4" speaker will provide more bass than the 6.5" speakers already in the doors.

This product is not listed in the Pioneer US web site. I did find it on Pioneers european site.

I would guess the bazooka line probably provides better bass but at the cost of more space.

It says 40-180 Hz on the box, this is of course not at -3 dB! This sub is not for those who want a level response down to 20 Hz...

I have DLS UP5 (Swedish brand) component speakers in the doors, 5.25" with a 60Hz-23hKz range, and they can probably produce good bass with an amp. The head unit doesn't have the power though, and if I crank it I also get some rattling from the door panels, so I wanted to relieve the door speakers of the lowest bass.

There are several better tube shaped subs but IMO they are too big and doesn't fit well in the position i chose.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm

I'm still pondering my next stereo upgrade after speakers. Which Sony did you choose? Did you keep the dash controls?

I think the Honda (USA) sub will be as good a solution as yours and use currently totally wasted space.

Soundgate is located about 2 km from me. I talked with them Friday and didn't get any useful info. My stereo shop said they would have a solution this summer, but Soundgate did not confirm that. I think I talked to a secretary and maybe I should talk with Rob Putnam.

Your solution is ELEGANT and way too much work for me!

I'll read up on your Sony though.
