I've been wanting to replace the stock '00 headunit, but 3 things have held me back so far. Does anyone know of an after-market MP3 headunit that has a simple and plain black design with amber lighting that is also adaptable so I can use the remote buttons on the left side of the steering wheel? Basically, I want to preserve the overall simple plain look of the stock radio because the black matches the interior plastic and the amber matches the leds. However, would love to upgrade to the amp output and upgrade to mp3 capability. Anyone know of any models that would fit the bill?

you need to do a search. But, you can add a modifry DCI to keep controls with pretty much any aftermarket HU. Also, pm darknight, he knows some stuff about a HU called Nakamichi cd300 I believe...and this is probably what your are looking for. Dont know if it plays mp3's though, but you can prob hook up an ipod to it with an adapter.

 

Check out the Nakamichi CD300. I believe you can change the LEDs from green to amber. Looks simple yet Nakamichi decks are pretty badass. Also some of the new Alpine HUs can change color. Hope this helps.

I believe:
the CD300 can play MP3 discs, but has no remote capability
the CD400 has a remote, but can't play MP3s
the CD500 plays MP3s and has a remote (needed for DCI
compatibility to retain dash controls)

 

you might be able to find an 06 Eclipse CD3000 somewhere on the cheap. The amber light matches the interior nicely and the SQ is great. Its also compaitible with the oem controls if you get the PAC adaptor for eclipse.
