There is software for Maps/GPS for the US. One package is sold on the Apple website.
The software is about $40. A GPS device would be around $300. Almost half the cost of the Mini!

I use a mouse pharos GPS with MapPoint on my laptop with ease. The thing cost $69 with a crappy software package (MS Streets and Trips).
(Although a laptop is not the most convenient navigation form factor...)
The verdict is still out on the Navi software available for a mac. I looked into it, and it exists, but so far it is kinda clunky. These Amazon reviews pretty much give you the gist of what i have found. With the advent of the mac mini someone will, no doubt, create a useable good mac navi set-up, (God bless Unix!
) but the existing osx native one (route 66) doesn't seem to be up to par.
itunes continues to rock, but an ipod is thus far a better solution than a mac mini. But boy does it bling in that VW.
