How do the focals sound top down, windows up at 90mph (assuming plenty of power and appropriate volume)? Someone asked me about this with the MB Quarts and I drove fast the other day to check it out. The MBQs are perfectly clear across the range at 91mph.
I'd audition the focals if I were to do it again, but I'm quite happy with the MB Quarts. Pricey as hell though!

Before you deside give a listen to the Boston Acoustics Z. They are designed and manfacutured in the US and sound very smooth at high volume. If you have any questions on the BA gear please feel free to ask.

One more thing. The hot ticket on the S2000 is to use the Boston Z6 in the door with the tweeter mounted with the woofer for a smooth tonal balance. Then use the Boston Acoustics Neo 5t ambient tweeter kit to mount ambient tweeters flush in the A pilliar to raise the sound stage. Awesome staging and tonal balance, easy install.

while i would agree that the Boston Z series is an incredible speaker (i have the original VR home theatre speakers that the Z series is based upon), i feel that i have to point out that the Z series is an extremely expensive speaker for an open car... also, it's extreme off axis response is only so-so, thus the factory install locations in the S are a less than optimal location for the Bostons.
bang for buck, this is a hard speaker to really recommend for the S. i would wholeheartedly recommend this speaker for a hardtop vehicle with good soundproofing... it really shines when you have a low floor of background noise, and you have more flexibility in mounting locations.
What about with the windows down?
"oh, and with my current setup (Focal 165K2's up front getting ~150 Wrms and a single e8a getting ~450 Wrms) - i have no problems clearly hearing music over the wind at 100 mph top down and windows down. subtle nuances are generally lost, and some very quiet passages are difficult to hear, but those are minor losses when you consider the conditions." generally speaking, it still sounds better than most factory systems in your average car...
putting the windows up makes a dramatic difference, but considering why i bought the car, i'll take the sound quality losses to drive windows down, unless it's a really good song...

Um,
The S2K is a sportscar. Made to handle well at speed. Lotsa speed. It is not made for acoustic excellence. If sonic superiority is your goal may I suggest an Odyssey?

Did anyone mention Zapco? My all time favorite amp..............period! And I should add I like MB's................Focals are a very nice speaker, but if you mate the right amp with the MB's, they can sound fantastic. Jmho.................................good luck in your search.
