Default MP3 Head Unit Recommendations?

I've been thinking about replacing the stock head unit with a new unit which can also play MP3 CDs. I've done some searches to see what other people may recommend, but haven't seen much discussion on it lately.

Any experiences (positive or negative) or recommendations out there? (and yes, I'm planning on replacing the stock speakers as well)

JVC SH-99... Tiz badddddassss. Plays all my mp3s with no problem has tons of features... Never skips (at least mine doesn't some people have been complaining that there was abad batch).

EQ features are actually quite powerfull, but alas take too much time to set up and every song seems to require different settings ... but this is a problem with any head unit...

Um, basically, I'd say this is the best one out right now (haven't seen the new alpine, so don't know about that one)...

I strongly recommend kenwood MP8017. Its solid; doesn't skip. I love it. I haven't used some of the newer MP3 heads out there but they look promising. I trust kenwood because this is their "second gen" of MP3 units z919 being the 1st. Load times between tracks are reduced.

It pumps out 22 RMS where as the JVC is 18 or 19.

some places it can be had for around $270 or so.

just my 2 cents

empeg

http://www.empeg.com

With capacities from 12 to 36GB (higher probably), you tend to quickly forget the need to carry any CD media with you. I had my installer wire a basic CD player to it so I wouldn't lose that capability, and after a couple weeks, it has been unused since.

LINUX based and completely software upgradeable, the empeg is, in fact, a complete in-dash PC and can be connected to your computer network via traditional or wireless Ethernet.

You blew $32K (minimally) on this car. Another $1200-1600 is nothing.

empeg, formerly a wholly owned product of empeg UK, recently purchased by S3, now called SonicBLUE, and rebadged to RioCAR.

I still say the JVC is the best bang for the buck.. and may even be the best period (depending on what you view as important). At $300 you really can't go wrong.. and if you don't mind paying a little extra you can order it from Crutchfield and have a free 30 day return policy, so it costs you nothing to try it !

www.crutchfield.com (I'm pushing them because they have the best service... and I used to live by the HQ .
