MP3 Head Unit Recommendations?
I like the ID3 tag display on the CDA-7878. If the MP3 file has the ID3 tag (can be added/modified through ID3 tagger software), it is capable of displaying everything that is to know about the particular MP3 music file. From the Artist, title, Album to the Year it was produced and you can also add comments to it... and the CDA-7878 displays(scrolls) all of it.

would recommend against the sony unit... no output/control for a cd changer and there's a website specifically for complaints against its performance.
i bought the kenwood unit. works fine, sounds great, no skips. controls are not as ergonomic as the others and is not as intuitive as you would think. Plays well. bought it for 250 plus 25 for the remote. plays loud enough, thinking of not incorporating the rockford fosgate amp i bought.
the jvc is a great unit. many of my friends have it and it works well - has 4v outputs as well.
the alpine is new and expensive... 750-799 street price. after buying speakers, amp, and head unit - it adds up quick.
My opinion and mine alone...

Actually, I'm almost positive that no text would display for the MP3 filenames on the Aiwa CDC-MP3. I figured it would when I bought it and I read that instruction manual front to back and didn't see even a line of text or even a pic of an MP3 filename scrolling on the display. I had gotten mine right when it came out last fall, so maybe newer models have that function. I don't have it any longer because I left it in my car when I sold it, but if it did show filenames, it must have been a pain in the ass to get it to because I played with that thing for hours on end and never figured it out.
Actually, if you cycle through the display, it will display the text title of each track within the folders. It is nice to be able to organize a CD by putting a single CD or artist in a Folder. Now that I think about it, you may have meant that it would not display the name of the folder, just the folder number. Anyway, mine works great and I noticed much fewer skips when I use CDRW media instead of CDR. Kinda wierd. Nice unit for the price.

Mine displayed all of the MP3 titles and artists names right out of the box. I got it a little over a year ago. Once the MP3 disc is in, you just toggle the display with the blue display button on the right. You can have it display the song title, artist, artist and title, album or track number. By default, the sytem would display some stupid message like "welcome to aiwa" or something. But to get rid of that you have to hold down the display button for about 4 seconds and it goes away for good. Perhaps your model was a little different than mine as you mentioned. If mine didn't display the titles etc, I would be happy with it either. Later.
