MY2000 OEM Radio Issue
Hi All,
I've encountered a new problem that I cannot find a solution for. My MY2000 OEM radio will turn on but does not produce any sound (well, actually getting a very faint signal at max volume). Everything else seems to be functioning properly (channels change, volume indicator moves, etc.) and the Mute button has no effect, so I'm wondering if anyone knows what could cause this. BTW, power-cycling the radio and re-entering its Anti-Theft Code fixed things temporarily, but now I'm without sound again. Help?
Thanks in advance!

A friend's MY '00 s2k had a problem where his speakers seized up due to water rusting the speaker and the magnet seizing up (there were aftermarket woofers installed). I'd pull one of the speakers and hook up any kind of speaker you know is good to it to make sure the speaker isn't dead first. If that doesn't seem to fix it, I'd think the headunit is dead/dying, and I'm not sure there's a whole lot you can do (nor is it worth it) to fix it. Replacing the head unit in that case might be the best option.

I can't remember the details but seems to me that back in the early days (00-01) there were a bunch of radio failures like you described. They simply stopped producing audio, sometimes intermittently, and I think the only fix was a new HU. Well, maybe not new, the dealer wants like $1100 for the OEM HU. But I bet you can get a used one at a reasonable price.
