I think I'm going to order a Soundstream Rubicon 500-1. It's 12x2.25x8.5, which just happened to be the same size as a plastic tool case I had in the garage. Looks like it will just fit under the driver's seat.

Negative. Rubicons run really hot. They are decent, but under the seat you are asking for trouble. They are pretty small. Hide it in the trunk somewhere.

For $150, I don't see how I can go wrong... If it gets too hot, I'll can always move it.

I guess.

Wouldnt it be a lot easier to wire it correctly once? Instead of the possibility of a fire under your $4,000 seat?

Alot easier -- no. Everything is alreay wired up under my seat ready to drop the new amp in! I'm not going to run it for 8 hours unattended the day I install it, so I don't think fire is really a concern. Wiring a 2 channel to each VC has brought up some new choices, though...

a fire is probably unlikely -- i would hope that an amp would shut down long before it's external casing reached temperatures sufficient to ignite foam, carpet, or leather.

ignition temps of some common household items
and some other common materials
even paper won't ignite till it reaches a temp of 451*F.

even your normal fuels take a good bit of temperature to ignite...

if it runs really hot and gets no circulation, it'll shut down - lots. but before it does, you'll have something most of us don't have.... a seat warmer.

Heated seats for 150 bucks. Ive used Rubicons before, they do run hot. I think they will shut down over and over under the seat. But thats just my .02
