Default Need help in deciding on speakers.

Hey. I have a Alpine CDA-7995. This head unit is second hand and the guy who owned it says the HU needs an amp to power it. If i want to go with the diamond s600s, but this set needs an amp too. can i bridge it some how where it can powered both? its a 4-channel amp. or is best to go w/ith another speakers set altogether. thx -tom

Wow a deck that needs an amp to power it...... Thats new!

You don't need an amp for the deck. What you need is an external amp to power any speakers because that deck (if I remember correctly) is passive. This means it only has RCA outputs, no internal speaker amp. If you are running 2 speakers get a 2 channel amp......

Did the acaraudio's Focals you purchased have serial numbers on them? I'm considering the vendor, but i want to make sure I'll have the full warranty?

I know Focal's don't have factory warranties unless they're purchased from a dealer. However, having serial numbers makes it harder for them to deny any claim.

my god 630 bucks for a pair of 6.5".....more like a ripoff. I've gone through countless component setups and never paid over $150 for any of them. Honestly, they all sounded pretty much the same too. There's only so much technology that can go into a 6.5" I just can't justify spending that much on something that isn't going to sound $600 better. Just like pens and watches, i can't spend more than $50 on a watch or more than 5 for a pen. It's Just wasteful. It's like buying a $700 umbrella, an umbrella is an umbrella.
Quality does improve at premium prices for all of the things listed. However, you're pretty much right that there isn't a HUGE difference. There is more difference between a $75 set and $200 set of 6.5" than a $200 and $600 set... but the $600 DOES sound quite a bit nicer. Same with pens... my Mont Blanc writes smoother than any other intstrument I've held... but it's not THAT much better than a simple Cross pen.

It's all a matter of priorities. Some might say your S doesn't drive THAT much better than a Miata.

it's a personal thing, and it depends on income and priorities.

My 2 pennies: if you are running power to them, the higher end speakers are much nicer and imo worth the extra cabbage. i listen to my car stereo just about every day for hours at a time.

that said, i don't think Rainbow components are worth the money for an install in a convertable. there is a point of diminishing returns. everyone is different. now if i had money to burn, i'd consider them in my ferrari. but i'm not cursed with the midas touch.
