Need help from some experts
Sounds good. I'm not totally stuck on Rockford amps, I just figured that since I was getting a Rockford sub, I'd go with the amp too. However, in the very near future I'm going to need one for my Components up front. They need 60 RMS, so I want the amps to be of the same brand just for the hell of it. So, if I get Alpine for the sub, I'll want Alpine for my components as well.
Also, since the sub is dual voice coil, when I wire it up, wouldn't it end up being wired at 2 Ohm when wired in paralell (+ to +, - to - on the voice coils) ?? I know that's the way it is with the JL 10W3v2...
How is this stuff so much cheaper than JL Audio?! Is it the whole name brand thing at work again? If I go buy a polo shirt from Banana Republic I pay $80, but if I go to the Gap I get it for $20 type of thing?

I like Alpine products, always have. They just sound good to my ear. I could not afford the amp from Alpine, so I got the Infinity one. Sounds almost as good. I think there is some sort of a performance barrier with regard to SQ between brands. I absolutely cannot STAND Sony amps....they just sound like crap to me. You are pushing bass with this one, and looking to BOMB at that, so SQ probably is not too terribly important for your application. I, personally, to not like RF amps for mids and highs...too dull sounding for me. If you want to match brands, I would look into a more expensive multi-channel setup. Only 1 set of RCA's / power wires to run, only 1 to mount. I you can swing it, Alpine has a 4-channel that puts out 100WMRS channels 1/2 at 4-ohms (highs and mids), and 500WRMS to 3/4 bridged. Look into it. MSRP is like $600-700, but they should be had for cheaper as nothing ever sells for MSRP anymore. Just remember, it is taking the place to 2 amps....so the higher price is warranted.
I may do this next month....put my Infinity up for grabs and just grab a 6-channel....1-4 for the cabin and the remaining 5-6 to bridge for the sub.

Just a suggestion, but maybe you want to check out your alternator? It could be on it's last legs, and the amp might me causing stress reducing the output voltage of the alternator under load.
Just a thought.

you are correct....this is why I suggested the SVC (Single Voice Coil) version of the same sub, so you can run 4-ohm impediance. A higher impediance, as I understand it, also makes the amp run cooler (or maybe its the other way around....
)
)Then wouldn't I want a 2 Ohm? Cause all the amps I'm looking at produce the most wattage at 2 Ohm and only half of that at 4.
On that note, why would anyone get a 4 or 6 ohm sub? If a sub calls for 400 Watts, you'd have to spend that much more money on an amplifier that can power it. If an amp that powers 400W RMS at 2 Ohm goes to a 4 Ohm sub, then it's only like 200W RMS at that point!
I'm fairly sure that you can do a rudimentary test if you have a multimeter, for a more thorough check I'd stop by autozone, I think they'll wheel a real battery/charging tester out to the car free of charge if you like.
Good Luck
Good Luck
I have a multimeter... What I did just recently check was how much voltage was getting to the amp vs. how much voltage was at the battery. The battery read at about 14.4... The voltage at the amp read at about 5.8! Isn't that an issues? Shouldn't at least 12v be getting back to that amp?!

are you sure the 10W6 won't fit in your box? what would be the limitation? it shouldn't be depth or volume...
however, the JL gear is going to be pretty expensive. they make nice stuff, but even at that, they tend to think it's worth a lot. (possibly more than it really is...)
for $400 heh? i think i can be done. actually, Dave (NYC) is really good at digging up deals. you may want to PM him and point him to this thread if he hasnt' been in here already....
the problem is -- i'm trying to satisfy a mad bass desire...
and that doesn't always come cheap.
at sounddomain.com - Rockford Fosgate has a number of refurb amps out there doing insane power for dirt cheap... but i'm not sure if you want refurb.
ya got this guy who can possibly drive the sub: http://www.etronics.com/product.asp?stk_co...tore=&catid=306
400 Wrms x 1 @ 2 ohms. $225.
Crutchfield has this MBQuart amp on sale:
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-NvYKLgi9zCA/c...49RAA2400&g=120
it's making 800 Wrms x 1 @ 4 ohms $250
i'm not sure what subs to suggest... i've looked, but haven't found too many in the $150 range that can do what you want...
you need a sub that can work in about a 1.0 cu ft sealed enclosure, and can handle the power of the amp you choose.
HOLY LOW VOLTAGE BATMAN! sorry, i posted all that above W/O reading to the bottom.
this is DEFINITELY part of your problem. i said it before, and i don't know what those guys did... don't just visually CHECK the fuses. also, work your way along the power run. check voltage from the power wire to ground heading back and check on both sides of every fuse if possible.
you may have to replace them all. this might be a partially blown or damage fuse.

So, if you think I should stick with JL Audio on subs to do this, well, then I will. I'll just fork out the extra money for it. But, if you think there is a comparable cheaper sub like the Rockford Stage 3 or something, then please let me know... I went to best buy and tried to listen to the Rockford stage 3 and they didn't have it at any of the best buys I went to. Plus, they have it out in an open area so it's not like you can really hear what they'd sound like. At least at HiFi buys they have enclosed rooms where they can shut the door and let you hear what the sub would sound like in an enclosed area.Anyway, I'll check the fuses during lunch today. I'll let you know what comes up. But, regardless, like you said, this system isn't what I want anyway... I want better bass from a system and this one just isn't going to cut it most of the time. So, don't stop the suggestions from coming.
Oh, I was looking at this Alpine amp if you guys still think the Rockford Stage 3 will do fine. It says it puts off 400w x1 at 2 ohm. Since the Rockford Stage 3 is a Dual Voice coil and when I wire it in paralell I can wire it as a 2 Ohm, wouldn't that push the needed 400w to that sub?
