What a world of difference an AMP makes. Over this weekend I finished wiring up and Alpine MRV-T407. It sounded great with the Kenwood Excelon speakers. Why I waited this long for what amounted to a 100% improvement is beyond me.

I finished that up early Saturday and then started thinking about separates. Ah, too much work cut the speaker basket drill holes forget. If it were only that simple...

I shot down to take a look at the new Boston Acoustics line. After listening to the Boston Rally RC620, I wanted it. (I've always been a huge fan of BAs) Problem is Tweeter's no discount store. They wanted $300. I told the guy I can buy these on the internet for $250. I didn't expect them to budge, but they did. Sold.

So I just finished up installing the separates. For the woofer I had to cut the speaker basket and drill new holes in it. For the tweeter I was going to flush mount it up in the door, but I was concerned that was a bit far form the woofer. So I used the angle mount and placed it in front of the door handles. It's got a nice clear shot to my ear. And it's not too noticible from outside the car. Drivers door took 2.5 hours. Passanger a little over an hour. What a piece of cake. (And I'm super particular about my cars)

I wish I had a digital camera because I would have taken some pictures.

Oh, and the sound? Outstanding. More than I could ever have asked for. The soundstage and bass response are excellent.

I couldn't be more pleased with the install.

Chad, I ended up replacing my head instead of installing the MRV-T407. Maybe I'll do both. The head I chose has 60 watts peak (about 25 watts rms) per channel and meets my needs.

Your email about how to rearrange the pins in the Metra Honda harness saved my bacon. Many thanks.

Also, your instructions about how to get battery power through the firewall also helped. My new head is connected to the battery via 6 or 8 gauge line through that grommet behind and to the left of the battery (ie to the left when you are facing the firewall, really to the right side of the car).

Thank you and contratulations on your install.

Barry
