Thats definitely not same as mine. That bump is gonna be in the way in our cars. In fact, I took a drill sanding disk to top of mine, just to get a little more clear. Otherwise mirror sits too low, blocks view.

That bump would really get in the way, as top of mirror ends up under our windshield dome light partially obscuring it. I heard there is a guy that can fit a shorter stalk to these Gentex mirrors. Might then make it so mirror can tuck up in front of dome light, in that nook where top of windshield meets frame.

Mine is, iirc, same part number, except missing those letters NLZ at the front (can see Gentex part number in one photos you linked). So I assume NLZ is abbreviation of whatever feature that hump is used for.

As for visibility, in the couple years I've had mirror installed, there have been maybe two or three times where sun made it too hard to see camera. In all but one case I was able to see enough to make it work. One time it was so bright (brightness that day, angle of mirror vs where sun was at that moment, etc) camera was all but useless. Tried to use free hand to screen sun, but barely helped.

So basically it works 99% of the time, but expect occasional issue.

Oh, and my prescription glasses are Transition lenses, so always some amount of sunglasses in the equation.

I'll keep an eye out... looks like prices have gone up since you got yours.

I snagged one for 50. I'm going to try to open it up and swap the mirror stalk with the s2k one, lets see how that goes.

Yup, broke my windshield trying. It was all pitted and worn, so not bad that it had to get replaced. Had windshield guy remove button on new glass, and install replacement that fits Nissan mirror.

He used a bic, and pliers. Put a little heat into it, then pried it off. He did it on the stand. So heat rose away from glass.

If I were going to try again myself, and windshield was installed, I'd prop a wet rag on outside of glass, to try and keep it cool.

The problem with trying to reuse stock stalk is its only ball and socket on one end. Windshield end is solid. So mirror will be at height dictated by angle that stock arm protrudes from glass, which isn't gonna work.

Gentex stalk is ball socket both ends. Mirror can flex around, and whole thing can flex up and down, left anf right.

I just hit the button with a small butane torch for a second or two while applying a light twist. Came off no problem. I get it though, some aren't comfortable with it. Actually using a gentec from a Nissan van for the homelink but this was before they had the rear view lcds. It was the only one with amber compass at the time.

I need to have three I stalled myself, just waiting on some shop work to be done so the glass guy can do it indoors. The S, CR-V and FC all need windshields. Plus I have to get them tinted before install. Gonna be a pain in the ass and wallet.

I've gotten safelite the past 2 windshield replacements I've gotten on my S. Much more affordable than OEM glass, which they offer as well for like double the price. They come to your house and replace. (with new rubber trim at the same time)
