which part of the door are you talking about?

and I think adding a set of mid-rage would be better than adding a set of 5.25"

Sorry, I meant speakers behind the seats in those removable plastic panels.
I bought a couple of extra panels so I can put some 5.25" back there.
Its a project just to see how the system will sounds like.

Your suggestion sounds better than me thinking about putting a set of comps back there.
What 5.25" mid range would you suggest ?

but if he doesn't listen to hi resolution recordings all the time, doesn't care about staging, and just want to boost volume, it is still doable.

we can't force everyone to be an audiophile, it is their life and choice which we should all respect
That's not what I wrote. I said "They are better than nothing but the return on investment is not worth it." in answer to this:

I was wondering if anyone out there has installed speakers behind the headrest and if it is any good?
The simple answer is that if you are paying even $100 for rear speakers it's not worth it since you're listening at 10% volume at most. You're much, much better off doing everything else with your system first and even then I wouldn't recommend it.

I've heard every rear mount possible in the S from entry level to competition levels of quality and I'm not impressed overall. The best systems to my ears are the ones that have lots of clean power, well tuned highs, and clear bass.

The separation issue is secondary, but it's fairly important and logical. If you have stereo speakers in the front but only hear the left channel behind you (at inches from both ears) then your overall sound stage is affected. There are ways to overcome this and some of the systems I've heard almost completely eliminate this problem through tuning but they are also the ones that have almost unnoticeable volume from the rear speakers. So, back to my first argument -- if proper tuning makes your rear channels almost disappear than why spend that money in the first place?

And I personally would only run the front speakers as well

but look at it again. If op listens to badly recorded music(or lossy media), does not have a set of speaker anywhere mid-fi, and just want to boost volume, then it is still "ok"...

I understand where you are coming from and totally agree to what you are saying, but the fact is not everyone has "audiophile" ears or taste. In the end, it is more important if the owner likes what he is getting.

eh... I think there is no point putting speakers in that spot since your seat is going to block almost everything coming out of it and is going to do more harm than good.

if you really want to put something there and just boost mid bass, then it is do-able. However, I wouldn't recommand that...

I have Apline type X components in my doors, a nice JL amp, JL sub in the trunk, and a Pioneer Premier Head Unit. With all this the sound is good, but I do have to say it is still lacking some depth. I think adding additional speakers will help resolve this. However, I don't know that adding them behind the headrest is a good idea. I'm thinking either behind the seat, just to add some filler to the sounds, or in the dash by the windshield.

Or...upgrade your components and switch to running active.

Just because JL and Alpine are popular names does not mean they're really all that great

I'm 5'7. My seats are forwarded.
I'm bored. I going to add just a pair of 5.25 mids just to see what its like.
Already bought the mids.
I'm the type that loves music while driving but I will not go overboard and spend $1000+ on audios stuff.
Theres not much left I can do to my system except for an overhaul and I don't want to do that.
